House memo: Test automation with id/Test
July 2011
For in-house test automation, Informationsdesign adapts the TextTest tool and enhances it for multi-purpose usage.
With the increasing complexity of test items the test automation is becoming increasingly important. At Informationsdesign this fact is already accommodated. Now a significant enhancement is implemented. Based on the text-based open-source tool TextTest a concept was developed in which the various test scenarios, such as example regression and acceptance tests, module and integration tests, performance tests and load tests, etc., are well supported.
The resulting id/Test tool is first used for A:Hub instances, but allows all kinds of deterministically behaving backend applications to be test automated. id/Test can be customized by configuration and by program scripts. The user may operate it interactively or batch driven. Thus, both the simple test case and the large test suite can be edited or executed efficiently. The tester can save the test runs in HTML reports. Automatically generated links to previous test executions provide the necessary transparency in the release control and allow the user to easily browse and compare test results.
